New leaders are always warmly welcomed by Girlguiding Angus – the more adult leaders we have the more girls will benefit from the challenge, opportunity and fun of guiding.
New leaders will first meet with their District Commissioner and begin to visit units or work with one unit regularly, under the supervision of the experienced unit leaders.
Each new leader is assigned a mentor who is there to help and support them as they follow the adult leadership qualification.
We have a range of training evenings and events available for new Leaders in training. First Aid training is offered twice a year. There is a Welcome to Guiding evening for new leaders, where the basic principles and methods of guiding are discussed. We also hold evening trainings based on the different sections, or arts & crafts, international and outdoor activities. For those who would like to take their girls on holidays or camps, there is training available on the relevant subjects. Every two years we hold a full Day Training where many different subjects can be covered, there is also the chance to go on residential trainings (which is a great chance for a weekend away!).
All the training sessions are aimed at keeping the unit leaders up to date with new developments and new ideas in guiding, in order for us to deliver a top quality experience to the girls.
