Girlguiding UK teamed up with 19 fantastic partner organisations – 18 charities and our guiding friends in the Branch Associations.

In September 2008, Girlguiding UK challenged all our members to take part in one of our partner’s community action projects.  Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and adults worked hard to change the world prior to the year long Centenary Party!

Units were encouraged to choose their own charity to support and they did this by raising awareness (of issues such as climate change), by raising money (for specific projects being run by the charities) and by taking action (by collecting books for Book Aid for example).

The UK results of Changing the World are being collected at the moment but we are pleased to announce just some of the things that Girlguiding Angus did:-

4th Forfar Guides ran chose the Cafe Project, running a cafe that raised £167 for the Branch Associations.

6th Carnoustie Brownies learned about the National Deaf Childrens Society, they learned sign language and raised £50 for the charity.

6th Forfar Brownies collected books and raised £165 for Bookaid International.

1st Arbroath Guides joined 2nd Carnoustie Guides to run a shop for the Adopt a Shop project for Save the Children.

4th Montrose Guides also chose to support Save the Children and raised £270 in their One Day Shop.

6th Montrose Brownies supported WWF – they raised awareness of wild life issues and raised enough money to sponsor the polar bear at Edinburgh Zoo – see photo below.

In addition the whole county planted trees at our county camp site at Ladenford with the Woodland Trust, and also helped the Scottish Wildlife Trust plant trees at Tayock in Montrose.
