In Angus the young members were consulted about the centenary during meetings held in various towns. This allowed the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers to decide themselves how they wanted to celebrate the centenary and as a result of these meetings a programme of exciting events has been planned….
Brownies Take Over Jumping Joey’s On Monday 30th November all the Brownies in Angus were invited to fun and games at Jumping Joey’s in Arbroath for a bouncing bonanza!! A fantastic time was had by all.
Brownie Discos were held on 5th February 2010 in three different towns in Angus, namely Montrose, Carnoustie and Forfar. The Brownies dressed in the centenary colours of pink, blue and yellow, and all had a wonderful time!
World Thinking Day Celebration, on the theme of One World, One Beat was held in Forfar on Saturday 20th February. This event for all ages was lively, noisy and great fun! Many thanks to the committiee who organised this event, and for the support of the Zuglu African drummers and Forfar & District Pipe Band.
Guides on Ice On Wednesday 14th April the Guides got away to Dundee Ice Arena for an evening of skating. Girls were invited to bring a friend to this event and over 300 people had a fabuloust time. Thanks to Gillian for organising the evening.
Heritage Trail During January, February and March there was heritage exhibitions in various libraries and museums throughout Angus. A lot of reminiscing over old photos, uniforms and badges took place! From 12th to 25th April the exhibition was at Ladenford and several units took along their girls to experince guiding through the years. A celebration of our Guiding heritage took place at Ladenford and many past and present leaders came along for a fun filled afternoon. Special thanks to Mary and her committee for all their hard work.
Rainbows Go Wild at the Zoo On Saturday 8th May, the Rainbows and their leaders have the chance of a day trip to Edinburgh Zoo.
Brownies Take Over the Tracks On Saturday 5th June we will be joined by Dundee Brownies for a fun filled day at the Caledonian Railway in Brechin. Steam train rides and activites galore!
Centenary Spectacular The highlight of our Centenary celebrations, on Saturday 19th June, a fun, action-packed day at Glamis Castle. Loads of activities for everyone and an occasion not to be missed!
100 hour Camp This will take place at Ladenford from 1st July and there will be opportunities for Guides and Brownies to camp, and Rainbows to have a sleep over in the hut. Please get your numbers in to the organisers as soon as possible
Garden Party This event is for adults and invited guests and takes place on 10th July at Glamis Castle. It will celebrate 100 years of their Italian Garden as well as our own Centenary.
Midnight Swim for Guides and Senior Section, at Stonehaven Outdoor Pool during August 2010.
Rainbow’s Princess Party A must for all our Rainbows, a chance to dress as a princess and have a party at a real castle. Wednesday 25th August at Glamis Castle. All pink and sparkly!!
Beach Bonfire for older Guides and the Senior Section, followed by a one night camp. This will take place on Saturday 4th September.
Rainbows Go Wild at the Zoo During September our Rainbows will have the chance to join with Dundee Rainbows for a trip to the zoo at Camperdown Park.
Centenary Finale To round off our exciting year the final event will take place in the Reid Hall on 20th October 2010 (20.10.2010). All members will be invited to join us for this memorable evening where we will link via the internet to Girlguiding UK headquarters and the whole of the UK will renew their Promise together at 20.10. A special Promise badge will be given to all those who attend.
In addition there are many events being organised by Girlguiding UK and Girlguiding Scotland .
