County management

It’s an absolute honour to be asked and I am delighted and proud to accept the role of County Commissioner for Angus. I look forward to the next five years with you all.

Growing up I was a Brownie, Guide and Ranger in Aberlemno, before leaving to concentrate on boys, having a good time and my nursing career.

I returned to Guiding 13 years later when I answered an advert in the local newspaper looking for volunteers to start up the first Rainbow Units in Montrose in 1989. As my daughter had just turned 5, it seemed perfect. I remembered the fantastic opportunities and memories that Guiding had given to me, the fun, friendships, and my love of camping. How I was encouraged to try and learn new things, helping my confidence to grow. I wanted this for my daughter and the opportunity to provide it to other girls and the rest is history as they say.

31 yrs on, I still run that Rainbow Unit and over the course of those years I have also been District Commissioner, Rainbow Residential and Outdoor Advisor, Rainbow Advisor and Assistant County Commissioner, but never dreamt that one day I would be County Commissioner. Through Guiding I have made very special friends and met many inspirational and amazing girls and women. I’ve had the chance to challenge myself to try new things, continue my love of camping and pass on those skills to others. Adventures a plenty both here and when travelling with great Guiding friends to all of the five Guiding World Centres and other countries. Most importantly though, I have seen how Guiding can and does make a positive impact on the lives of girls and women involved.

It makes me happy and proud to be a part of it
